House Plants

I'm talking about biohacking your environment with plants!

As you may know, biohacking is all about changing your environment to enable you to have control over your biology to reach optimum health and performance. One piece of the puzzle is the environment that you live in.

“Plant power to the rescue!”

To have the best health outcomes, you need your living space to support your biological functioning - clean surfaces, quality air, soothing smells and visuals, etc. Plants are one way to create a healthy living environment naturally and without adding more chemicals and toxins.

How to do it

It's simple! Add potted plants to your living and working spaces. It's an easy and natural way to upgrade your environment and your health.

How it works

Plants purify the air by absorbing some particulates while also taking in carbon dioxide and processing it into oxygen through photosynthesis. The potting soil is also beneficial as it contains microorganisms responsible for much of the cleaning effect.

Furnishings, upholstery, synthetic building materials, and cleaning products can emit toxic compounds, like formaldehyde. Indoor air pollution also include pollen, bacteria, molds and outdoor pollutants that get inside (smog).

NASA research found that there are many plants that are exceptional at cleaning the air including the Garden Mum for removing ammonia, benzene, formaldehyde, and xylene; and Dracaenas is for removing benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, and xylene.

Beyond air quality, plants just make people feel better. They look nice, smell nice, help keep rooms cool, help to increase humidity, help reduce noise pollution and keep you company! For example, studies in hospitals show that patients with plants in their rooms are more positive and typically have lower blood pressure.

So go get yourself some plants!
